The works of art featured here were produced during the International Gathering of Indigenous Visual Artists of the Pacific Rim held at The Evergreen State College in June, 2001. The Gathering brought together 71 visual artists representing 38 indigenous nations/tribal affiliations. At the end of the event, the artists selected four representative pieces from each of the five media categories: weaving, ceramics, painting, carving, and printing. These works, plus two pieces from each of the lead artists, make up the thirty pieces featured in this traveling exhibition. A catalog, along with video documentation and educational materials, contextualize the works of art within the various cultures represented. |
