COMPLETION CHECKLIST
FOR SUSTAINABLE AG
This program will provide upper division students with the direct experience
of practices used in sustainable farming and gardening and is the continuation
of the spring quarter Organic Farm Internship. This field course will
emphasize practical skill development in crop production and be complemented
by field trips, informal labs and lectures. Students can expect instruction
in: composting; soils and green manure; livestock and chicken raising;
pest, disease and weed control; equipment operation/maintenance; seed
saving and basic botany.

Meeting time: Wednesday 8-12 am at the Farmhouse, followed by a 45 min.
lunch. In the afternoon 1-5pm meeting/farm walk with Betsie, potluck
dinner in Farmhouse

Academic Work:
8 cr- 2 days of on-farm work including Wed pm. with academic work limited
to journal and synthesis paper plus individual project presentation
on individual vegetable crop. You would not be required to attend Wed.
am and the overnight field trip(s).
12 cr- 1.5 days of on-farm work including Wed pm. All program activities
Wed. am and pm overnight field trip(s). Academic work is journal, more
substantive synthesis paper reflecting activities, study sheets based
on Wed am sessions.
16 cr- all program activities as above with 1.5 days of on-farm work,
as well as 4-credit individual project
