The Atherton Tablelands - Fragmentation and Spotlighting Field Trip

On Wednesday, for a little break from filling our brains, we set out West to the tablelands. For people unfamiliar with this part of the world, they are nothing at all like a table... I was picturing boring and flat, but indeed they were anything but like the Canadian Prairies! We checked out some stream restoration projects along a region called Donaghy's corridor, and I enjoyed seeing what Tania, Nigel, and their community have been busy working on. In the evening we headed to see some wildlife, and I got to see a couple of platypuses swimming around - not that you can really see them in my photo below! Also, you'll have to use your imagination to see the tree kangaroo - it was dark after all :) The thing on the end of the finger in the picture below is a leech... and these leeches live on the ground, rather than in the water like they do here. They also like to suck human blood.. and I say this from EXPERIENCe!!! One was rather attached to my calf in fact :)!
