LITERATURE CARDS
Plot Summary should include:
-Name, age, gender, race, sexuality of protagonist
-General idea of setting (urban, rural, suburban, country, farm, city, etc.)
-Main problem/dilemma of novel, issues that are addressed
Critique:
-Use the appropriate criteria for evaluating given in the text, and discuss how this book meets or does not meet this criteria. If it does not meet more than it meets, then you should probably choose another book to annotate!
-Using direct quotes from the book for examples is a good idea here.
Social/Cultural Imagery:
-Every text has implied as well as explicit messages about how to be in the world. Note the race/ethnicity, age, social class, gender, sexual orientation that is represented in the book, and the messages (positive or negative) about these.
Evaluated on:
-How well the selections reflect a diverse range of topics, genres, authors, protagonists, and dilemmas
-How well the book choices meet the selection criteria for the genre
-Ability to analyze and apply selection criteria
-Ability to create specific classroom curriculum uses
