Growing
a learning community takes time and thoughtful participation. We want to
provide the time and opportunity for all of us to become acquainted, determine
the assets we bring to this community, and develop a solid foundation for
the next two quarters' work (and have some fun while we get all this accomplished!)
To
support these goals, we are planning a full time “retreat” away from campus,
probably during the third week of class. The benefits of trips like these
are quite wonderful - we hope you will be as excited as we are about the
content and format of the field trip.We expect that part of our time will
be spent in Challenge activities, part in seminar groups, and part in group
projects.
We will take school vans to the retreat site.
You'll
need to be prepared to pay a field-trip fee of $60 during the first week
of class.
At the camp, you'll need warm, comfortable, out-door and in-door clothes, rain-gear, toiletries, your notebooks, and the seminar book for the week. You might also want to bring CD's, musical instruments, sketch pads, and recreational reading.
We'll be shopping for food in our seminar groups so that we can prepare meals for each other.During the first week of class, we'll find out about special food needs and child-care needs and get folks into work groups to prepare for the trip.
