1.  Although it's the 21st century, American public schools fulfill the functions of schooling that originated in the first three civilizations to establish schooling.  In doing so, American schools accurately reflect the principle of correspondence.

2.  If you had to choose one, either equality, equity or excellence for the public schools, which would it be?

3.  Maintaining the belief that individual intelligence and effort are the reasons for success perpetuates racism and classism in the United States.

4.  Because American public schools reflect the four basic functions of schooling, counseling, the arts, music and sports should be eliminated when there are budget cuts.

5.  Because a major function of schools is to pass on the tools of society; and because American society depends on literacy and numeracy; the use of standardized tests is justified.

6.  Because of existing inequities that currently exist in American society, whatever approaches to teaching work for those most disadvantaged should be used in all schools for all students.
