Compare and contrast Comer’s and Moses’ models for improving
schooling and increasing equity for children. Do Moses and Comer agree
with the Principle of Correspondence? Do they support the Four Functions
of Schooling? How? Are they proposing new functions? If so, how do the
functions they posed reflect the needs and values of our society?
Comer stated that participation as a responsible citizen
in a democratic society involves actions such as influencing political
structures, participating in community action programs, helping to promote
racial understanding, keeping up to date with political affairs, and becoming
a community leader. Do you agree or disagree? Why? What roles should schools
play in fostering these qualities? Would Moses agree or disagree with Comer?
Is Bush’s "Leave No Child Behind" legislation an example
of cultural appropriation? Explain.
