Hi, and welcome to the Evergreen Irish Resurgence Element website! EIRE is commited to provoking a wholesale renewal of interest in the history, music, language, traditions and culture of the Irish people. We aim to stretch one arm deep into the mists of Ireland’s vibrant Celtic past, by immersing ourselves in traditional music and song, the study of Gaelic, and the complex world of Irish history, and send the other arm surging energetically forward into the new millennium by reviving long-neglected traditions, drawing parallels between the historical struggle of the Irish people for dignity and recognition and the similar plight of marginalized people today, and reaching out to share and learn from members of other ethnic groups.

We will work to further these ends through workshops, traditional music sessions and ceilis, Gaelic-practice sessions, special events, and, of course, lots of old-fashioned socializing (aka craic). We also hope to engage in cross-cultural dialogue with other community groups on campus, and establish ourselves as a presence in the greater Olympia area through outreach and community-wide events. We anticipate an exciting year of growth and new activity, and we're always looking for more people to get involved.

We have general meetings in EIRE-Space #4 on the 3rd floor of the CAB building (or the nearby couches) every Wednesday from 1:30pm until whenever we feel like leaving. Feel free to swing by and help plan, give input, design flyers, or just hang out and chat, and always keep an eye out for EIRE-sponsored events (also listed on the Events page)!
