WHO ARE THE TACOMA STUDENTS ?
The Tacoma Students are gifted individuals who, for what ever reasons, have delayed the completion of their undergraduate education. They are diverse and reflective of a community microcosm.
Students entering the Upper Division Program are generally community college transfers, adults returning to college and graduates of the Tacoma Community College - Evergreen State College's Bridge Program. Most community college transfers come from Seattle Central, Highline, Tacoma Community and Pierce College. Most returning adults are referred by someone in their church, job or community. Most are employed in government, civil and social service, school district, military or non-profit agencies.
Sixty-two percent of the current student body is female; 38% male. Their ages range from 22 to 61; the average age is 39. Many are first generation college students. Many are from the Pacific Northwest; most are transplants. A small, but growing, number are Gay, Lesbian, and/or physically challenged.
