Returning to my roots

Alley is back at Evergreen in 2007

After a therapeutic 2-year hiatus in the sane and colorful city of Amsterdam, I've returned to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to re-fill on family time and again lead a productive work life. The only drawback to the current mode is leaving my husband behind in the Lowlands.

Check out pictures from the summer with the grandkids.

I like the Dutch names for the spring and fall: najaar means literally "after year", and voorjaar (spring) "before year". It's as if the real year is made up of summer, which is what I believed anyway when I was a kid. Anyway, while hurricanes and earthquakes are wreaking havoc in other parts of the world, mother nature here seems to be apologizing profusely for the awful summer. We are having steady good weather. Yesterday was a perfect beach day, so we took the bikes on the train to Bloemendaal, a small town close to the North Sea, and then rode through the town and the dunes to the beach. A new route for us, and very picturesque.
