Peter Pan (James Matthew Barrie)
The
quest for understanding the universe and our place in it has never ended,
and the cosmos is just as awe inspiring as it has always been. Unfortunately,
due to our living under roof for thousands of years occupied with daily
life and flooding of the night sky with city lights, we have lost contact
with the sky and our place in the universe. Exploring space has been
reduced to the practice of paid professionals and an occasional enthusiast,
with most of us wandering about with our eyes looking down and the entire
universe hanging mournfully over our heads. Knowledge of the sky
is as valuable today as it was in ancient times; one can learn how to "read"
the sky and by doing so, unlock the vault of the cosmos and open the door
to infinite possibilities of understanding. By lifting our eyes, opening
our minds and freeing our imagination we are able see the sky as the ancients
once did: as a place of wonder, a place of order and a place of inspiration.
All in something as ordinary as night and as plain as day.
