¿Qué hacemos? What do we do?
Las masas empobrecidas no tienen mayor acceso al conocimiento; el
maximo esfuerzo se hace alfabetizando a las mayorías, pero sin acceso
a los libros tenemos alfabetos analfabetos. Con el Internet este acceso al
conocimiento se hace más posible si es que los niños, además
de aprender a leer y escribir, aprenden a usar la computadora. Nosotros en
Tercer Milenio estamos dedicados a ofrecer este acceso. Llegan a nuestro local
jóvenes profesionales o estudiantes universitarios especializándose
en informática y deseosos de apoyarnos en este esfuerzo. Hasta ahora,
la mayoría de veces, conseguimos suficiente dinero para pagar por la
energía eléctrica. Nuestro siguiente paso es conseguir acceso
a Internet y conectar todas las máquinas con el HUB donado últimamente
por Quipunet que también nos donó un scanner y un quemador de
CDs. Funcionamos hasta sábados y a veces domingos para también
dar oportunidad a padres de familia y profesionales, con los pequeños
pagos de ellos podemos solventar los gastos básicos para funcionar
y atender gratuitamente a niños de escasos recursos económicos.
Ahora estamos creando nuestro Telecentro y esperamos poder conectarnos al
Internet en cuanto sea posible. Muchas gracias.
Most poor people hardly have access to knowledge; most of the state efforts
go towards teaching them reading and writing, but with no access to books
we end up with masses of literate people who are illiterate at the same
time. With the Internet we think access to knowledge will be possible if
children, besides reading and writing, also learn how to use computers. At
Tercer Milenio we dedicate our efforts in this direction: to provide access
to computer literacy. Young professionals and college students who are especializing
in Information Technology or Computer Literacy visit us often and offer their
time to help us out in our efforts. Most of the time, fortunately until
now, we have been able to collect enough money to pay for power bills. Most
money comes in in the form of fees from parents and professionals who also
have access to our equipment/services. Our future plans include the setting
up of an intranet first and then get access to the Internet. We thank Quipunet
for donating us all these equipments and also for the scanner, the HUB and
the CD burner. Now we are busy setting up our Telecenter. Thank you.
