Parson, Ph.D.
The Evergreen State
College - Tacoma Campus
I teach at Evergreen's
Tacoma Campus. The interdisciplinary curriculum at the Tacoma Campus
is designed for adult learners who have committed to completing their undergraduate
education and are entering our program as juniors or seniors. My
academic discipline is microbiology and my teaching responsibilities include
integrating microbiology, public health and bioethics into an interdisciplinary
teaching and learning context. My particular scientific interests
are medical microbiology, the HIV/AIDS problem, and environmental
microbiology. My interest in public health also includes environmental
racism and environmental justice.
In 1997-98 I coordinated
an interdisciplinary program entitled Power Studies. One highlight
of the Power Studies program was the development and publication
of a virtual anthology of
student research in the spring quarter.
In 1998-99 I will be
coordinating a program entitled The Art of Leadership.
