Natural History

I have collected S. altinodis in Guyana, Colombia, and southern Costa Rica. All have been lowland rainforest sites. Most workers were collected as foragers on low vegetation, often at extrafloral nectaries. I have found foragers during the day and at night. In Corcovado National Park I encountered an aggregation of about 20 workers inside the corolla of a Psiguria (Cucurbitaceae) flower. In Colombia I collected a nest inside a 10mm diameter dead stick.
