Bio

Hi, I'm Carol Hert, a research professor at Syracuse University. I'm an information scientist with research interests in information seeking and use behavior. For the last 7 years, I've been working on questions associated with the dissemination of statistical information. These have included investigations of how people seek and use statistical information, the barriers to that use and appropriate system design. Most recently, our NSF-funded project has been exploring issues of integration of statistical information across agencies at a variety of levels (regional, state, federal). My particular component of this project is developing a metadata schema to support user integration activities (from finding multiple sources to using data from multiple sources) and looking at the tech transfer issues associated with enabling use of the schema in agency settings. The NSF's Digital Government program has funded my work for the last 5 years.
