Bio
Since 2003, I've been the Director of Science Programs for the Ecological Society of America (ESA). The Science Office works on a variety of projects aimed at promoting the development of ecological science and its integration into decision making. Ecoinformatics is becoming a key tool for both. My general interests are in environmental policy and ecological risk assessment; before coming to ESA I spent 13 years in consulting, with a focus on environmental impact and risk assessment for defense, energy, and transportation projects. My graduate training was in marine ecology and policy science; I have a Ph.D. in the former and a Master's in the latter.
Work:
A primary function of the ESA Science Office is promoting the integration of ecological science into decision making. We have a strong interest in making ecological data useful to decision makers, and that interest cuts across the workshop themes. My workshop preferences are related primarily to a judgement about where I can be most useful.
