Larry Sugarbaker, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, NatureServe
Larry Sugarbaker is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for NatureServe. As CIO, Larry is responsible for providing strategic leadership for information systems. NatureServe information systems support field data collection and management activities for the 76 member Conservation Data Centers and Natural Heritage programs in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. He has worked in state government for 22 years supporting department remote sensing, forest inventory, and geographic information functions. Larry has served on numerous agency, state and national committees including the watershed information coordination committee, the Washington framework data committee, the Washington Geographic Information Council, federal coordination councils and the National Research Council, Mapping Science Committee.
Work:
NatureServe supports 76 member programs with programmatic science and information services. This places us to be in a position to deal with every research and operational aspects of the issue and problem space identified in the breakout elements identified. Currently, NatureServe is conducting an assessment of the biodiversity information needs of both the information user and data provider communities. In addition, the NatureServe Vista decision support tool to support land planning decisions will be released in January of 2005. Biotics 4 is our current biodiversity data management tool that is used by more than 50 member programs.
