- I'm an aquatic ecologist for the National Park Service's Pacific West Region - I assist park managers with high-priority aquatics issues at parks in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and the Pacific Islands. One of my most pressing projects currently is conservation of the Endangered Devils Hole pupfish at Death Valley National Park. I'm also working with parks to create maps of their wetland habitats and to assess the ecological integrity of their wetlands.
- Work:
- The Devils Hole pupfish is declining for unknown reasons, despite 30 years of data on the species. I need to find tools that will assist with integrating and modeling the existing data to identify data gaps and correlate environmental conditions with pupfish declines.
- National Parks in the West contain uncounted wetlands, which managers need more information about - where they are, what condition they're in, and what ecological functions they provide. I need to find ways to collect and deliver this type of information to in-park managers, as well as to integrate data regarding wetlands from ecologically-dissimilar regions for national-level policy makers.
