Natural resources education - Berkeley. 30 years of remote sensing and GIS experience. 16 years in state gov (CA Dept of Forestry and Teale Data Center), 4.5 years at USGS - Staff Director to the FGDC. Original architect of the NSDI and FGDC metadata. 3 years at Puget Sound Regional Council - Director of Growth Management. Last 5 years as environmental consultant - to EPA, CDC, and NOAA - work on information infrastructures, environmental indicators, salmon recovery, data gaps & partnerships, environmental-health networks, metadata, data quality. Facilitator, traveler, and gardener.
Work:
Currently involved deeply in EPA environmental indicators - writing indicators for National Report on the Environment, conducting indicator gaps/limitations analysis, assessing intn'l, national, state, local indicator efforts - linking indicators to planning/performance. Working with CDC to develop national environmental public health tracking network that addresses env-health linkages, data quality and metadata issues. For many years interested in how information is presented (e.g., maps/GIS) and how used/not for decision-making. Working with NOAA to develop data/information performance measures to show results of $500 million investment in NW salmon recovery.
