Bio
William A. Sonntag, Jr. is a founding employee of the USEPA Office of Environmental Information (OEI). He has served as the Chief of Staff for OEI since fall 2001. Prior serving CIO and Assistant Administrator Kim Nelson in this capacity, he was the lead USEPA staff for the Environmental Data Standards Council.
Mr. Sonntag currently leads several project areas including: management of health and environment data issues as OEI's Principal Liaison to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); coordination of international issues and projects led by the Immediate Office of the Assistant Administrator including coordination of computer science and information technology research with European research and government institutions; principal policy staff for cooperation on Ecoinformatics with the European Environment Agency. Mr. Sonntag is currently lead staff for the United States delegation to the Commission on Environmental Cooperation for the development of an "Information for Decision Making" strategic plan. Mr. Sonntag also staffs activities related to Performance Partnerships and program performance measures with State environmental program management
Previous positions include Vice President of Government Relations for three national industrial trade groups in Washington; staff to Congressman Robert Walker of Pennsylvania (ret), then Chairman of the House Science Committee. Mr. Sonntag also served Director of the Pennsylvania State Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee
Mr. Sonntag holds a bachelors degree in Political Science from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He is a professional captain with a six passenger, OUPV license.
