Several software packages are used in the Kelly/Barlow lab, but the two most important are MATLAB and LabVIEW. MATLAB is technical computing environment for high-performance numeric computation and visualization developed by MathWorks. LabVIEW, developed by National Instruments, is a graphical programming development environment based on the G programming language for data and image acquisition and analysis and instrument control. Recently, programming in IDL is replacing image analysis with MATLAB and LabVIEW. IDL (Interactive Data Language) is a computing environment for the interactive analysis and visualization of data. IDL integrates an array-oriented language with numerous mathematical analysis and graphical display techniques.
