Canopy Database

The mission of the Canopy Database ( is to combine efforts of forest canopy researchers with database and computer scientists to produce effective tools to manage, analyze, and disseminate shared data pertaining to complex ecological questions requiring multiple disciplines and a wide range of spatial scales.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the canopy database provides resources for research, analytical tools, and education, in addition to communication pathways, publications and images, and access and safety issues. In addition to a database team who designs, implements, and manages the site, lab students and staff are involved with collecting data in the field (summer only), processing samples, and entering and proofing data.

A key feature of the site is a database containing some 5700 scientific citations pertaining to the forest canopy. To search these citations visit:
