Agaricus xanthodermus is one of several Agaricus species that cause flu-like symptoms when consumed. As hinted in the name, a yellow bruising reaction distinguishes Agaricus xanthodermus. All of the toxic Agaricus species that I am aware of also turn a bright yellow when a drop of 10% sodium hydroxide or 10% Dranoâ is placed on a piece of the flesh.
