See if you can tell which of these two mushrooms is a good edible species and which one is suspect and should not be eaten. Cortinarius pinetorum is the suspect species. Cortinarius species are characterized by a cobwebby veil and a rusty brown spore print. Rozites caperata is the edible mushroom. Rozites caperata is characterized by a membranous veil and a brown spore print plus a corrugated cap that tends to appear freshly frosted. Rozites caperata is currently considered to be a Cortinarius with a membranous veil and its new name is Cortinarius caperatus.
