Slide 28.
Hebeloma crustuliniforme, Poison Pie, is yet another brown-spored mushroom that causes severe gastric distress in Europe. The look-alike that we have in North America is also considered poisonous, but I have no reported poisonings in the NAMA database. Some individuals who have eaten this species insist that it is not poisonous, but they also mention that it is not very tasty either. The toxins are unknown. Hebeloma is a small genus with no known good edible species. Indeed, there are so many toxic species and so few distinctive edible mushrooms with an orange to rusty brown to dull brown spore print that I do not eat anything with these brown spore colors.
