Hypholoma capnoides is similar in appearance to Hypholoma sublateritium but has a yellow to orange cap and is a widespread species occurring on conifer wood. Hyphoma or Naematoloma capnoides is known as the Gray-Gilled Wood Lover and is another good edible occurring late in the season. Great care must be taken not to confuse it with the next species.
