Amanita phalloides is another deadly species and this one is frequently confused with the greenish-capped variant of Amanita lanei. Asian immigrants have frequently mistaken both Destroying Angels and Amanita phalloides with the highly prized Paddy Straw Mushroom. Like Amanita ocreata and the several other pure white Destroying Angel species, Amanita phalloides contains cyclic polypeptides, the amatoxins. Initial symptoms are gastric distress 8-12 hours after ingestion and lasting 8-48 hours. You then appear to recover until about 72 hours post ingestion when you enter the terminal phase of gastric distress, bloody diarrhea, jaundice and possible kidney failure.
