Slide 55.
This mushroom belongs to the Russula albonigra group. Russula albonigra starts out white, looking somewhat like Russula brevipes, but in age turns black. None of the blackening Russula species should be eaten. Some turn black directly and some turn red then black and others turn gray then black. All should be considered poisonous. Blackening Russula species can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, even death.
