Boletus chrysenteron, know by some as Xerocomus chrysenteron, is a widespread bolete that is medium to small with characteristic reddish cracks in the cap and a blue bruising reaction. Boletus chrysenteron is a common and widespread species that I find more of than nearly any other bolete. While edible, the flavor is hardly incredible.
