Boletus mirabilis is one of the few boletes that grows on well-rotted wood. Boletes are mycorrhizal species that grow in a mutually beneficial association with tree roots. Boletus mirabilis, with its rich velvety brown cap, is known as the Admirable Bolete. I particularly admire it at the dinner table.
