Boletus erythropus formerly known as Boletus amygdalina is one of several boletes with red tube mouths. Boletus erythropus is considered to be a choice edible but some red-tubed boletes are mildly to violently poisonous and one death was recorded in the 1990s from consumption of Boletus pulcherimuus, another red-tubed bolete.
