Cantharellus subalbidus, the White Chanterelle, is a choice edible species found in the Western United States. Like all Chanterelles, it is a micorrhizal species forming an association with tree roots that is mutually beneficial to the tree and the mushroom. A great many basidiomycetes form mycorrhizal associations and are very important in forest health.
