Slide 32.
Kit Scates Barnhart is shown here holding Calvatia booniana, one of the giant puffballs. This one is edible though not as tasty as some of the other giant puffballs. All puffballs are edible while young and still pure white inside. The choice Calvatia gigantia is a smooth-skinned giant puffball found in parks and meadows late summer and early Fall while Calvatia booniana is found in semi-arid sage-brush and pine areas of the West.
