Slide 51.
Lepista nuda or Clitocybe nuda, the Blewit, is a choice and widely distributed species that I love broiled on the barbecue. It is a meaty, squat species with a pinkish spore print and an inrolled cap margin. As you turn it in the light the color seems to shift from purplish to tan and back to purplish. Make certain that you can distinguish it from a rust-brown spored Cortinarius and a pinkish angular-spored Entoloma as well as from other Lepista species. Lepista nuda is quite poisonous when raw but the toxin is thermolabile - another reason one should never eat mushrooms raw.
