Gyromitra melaleucoides is one of the look-alikes to Discina perlata and Disciotis venosa. It is distinguished by a somewhat waxy-looking underside when moist and 10-14 micron non-apiculate spores. I am certain that Gyromitra melaleucoides has frequently been eaten by people who believed that they had collected a Discina species or Disciotis venosa.
