Sarcosoma mexicana, the Mexican Gel-cup, is widely distributed
throughout the west in spring and summer on decaying wood or duff, first
appearing shortly after snow melt in the mountains. It forms a sizable,
though unappetizing, lump of gelatinous matter. A similar species,
Sarcosoma
latahensis, is very similar but with much less gel.
