Sarcoscypha coccinea, the Scarlet Cup, is a fairly common
and widely distributed late Winter and early Spring species. It is most
often found on hardwood twigs and branches in riparian areas. Sarcoscypha
coccinea is reportedly edible though I have never found it in enough
quantity to be tempted to try it.
