Leucophleps magnata is closely related to the Leucogasters and is also highly favored by flying squirrels. There are four species found in North Temperate forests from spring through autumn. Since this collection was found in a friend's yard, it was available for organoleptic research. That is to say, we ate one. The experience was similar to eating library paste and certainly will not be repeated. I guess that we should have been suspicious of the sticky white latex exuding from the labyrinthine chambers and not been overcome by how fond flying squirrels are of Leucophleps magnata.
