Hysterangium coreaceum is one of about 25 species of Hysterangium found in Northern Temperate forests. They are thought to be closely related to the stinkhorns and have a greenish to olive-brown spore mass that becomes slimy and unpleasant smelling in old age. Hysterangium coreaceum is the most common species and is found wide-spread under hardwoods and conifers spring through fall.
