Slide 48. Calvatia sculpta is a distinctive inhabitant of the western mountains that is one of the best eating puffballs. It fruits from late spring through fall. The white pyramidal warts are very distinctive making this easily the most spectacular of all the puffballs. It is in the hardball to softball size range. |
