Ramaria coulterae is another choice edible mushroom of
the Rocky Mountains distinguished by chemical and microscopic features.
It is named for a member of the Pacific Northwest Key Council, Elsie Coulter,
who hunts with Ramaria expert Kit Scates and locates mushrooms for Kit
and me to photograph on our forays. There are a number of pink-tipped coral
mushrooms probably most often collected and eaten under the name Ramaria
botrytis. Most are choice edibles, though at least one look-alike
is exceptionally bitter. Several have laxative effects on some people.
