Albatrellus ovinus is another spring and summer species
that is edible when simmered thoroughly and carefully, though it can become
slimy and large quantities can have a laxative effect. This species is
found in mixed woods and under conifers worldwide in northern temperate
forests. Albatrellus ovinus can be very abundant, sometimes
growing in large fused masses. There are three of for highly similar edible
species with caps ranging from purplish to yellowish or orangish.
