Leccinum holopus is a pallid look-alike to Leccinum scabrum. There are several brown-capped Leccinums, not all of which are named. Leccinum holopus is found under birch and under aspens. It is edible when young and firm, though I do not seek out the brown-capped Leccinums with the same enthusiasm I have for the orange-capped varieties.
