Cortinarius trivialis was thought to be another potentially deadly species, but that is now considered to be unlikely. To recognize Cortinarius species look for a cobwebby veil in very young specimens and a rusty brown spore print that often leaves rusty brown spores adhering to the fine hairs on the stipe of older specimens.
