Contrary to popular opinion, there is not just one kind of mushroom poison. The truth of the matter is that there are many different kinds of toxins, the most dangerous of which produce no immediate symptoms. There are seven generally recognized types of toxins plus an eighth group of miscellaneous, largely unidentified toxins. This chart by Kit Scates provides a useful summary of toxic mushrooms, symptoms and classes of toxins. The chart, now somewhat dated, is available from Fungal Cave Books, 1943 SE Locust Ave, Portland Oregon 97214 for a $10 shipping fee.
