Clitocybe dealbata is one of several Clitocybe
species that contain high levels of muscarine and related compounds. These
are Group G toxins (Poisindex IV). The onset of symptoms occurs 30 minutes
to 2 hours after ingestion. The toxins are found in clinically significant
concentrations in 3/4 of the species of Inocybe and well over a
dozen species of Clitocybe. Muscarine is present in many other species,
though generally either in an inactive form or clinically insignificant
amounts. Some muscarine containing species contain other toxins as well
that can complicate the symptoms. For example Inocybe fastigiata
has been associated with mild liver damage which is not characteristic
of muscarine.
