Contacts and Feedback

Welcome to the Virtual Atlas of the Pacific Northwest. This atlas is an organized collection of maps that describe geographic conditions within the Pacific Northwest region in the United States. The region includes Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This large region, defined here by the political boundaries of the states, is made up of several subregions delineated by their physical and social boundaries. Data describing physical and social conditions across the entire region is provided in both spatial and statistical formats. Sub-regions are identified with images and links to data sources about conditions within each area.

The Virtual Atlas is designed as a resource for geography students, teachers, travelers and adventurers on the World Wide Web. The atlas is continually under reconstruction in order to bring you the best most up to date information.  Ten maps of various topics or themes and six sub-region pages are now in the atlas.  This basic framework is supplemented by links to additional links to maps, images and topics of interest.  There is also a mapping resources section that both provides information about mapping and allows you to create your own specialized maps.  More links and resources will be added as they become available. Suggestions and comments are invited.

This project has been a collaborative effort between many sources, all of whom deserve our utmost thanks.  The original idea was formulated by Dr. Martha Henderson of The Evergreen State College.  The basic structure of the atlas was developed by James Gutholm.  Ryan Bell created the site and is responsible for its maintenance, as well as overseeing current efforts to develop curriculum and bring the atlas into active use in the classroom.  Curriculum is currently being developed by Dean Hansen and John Zadrozny.  It is being tested in Megan Baker's class at the Nova School.  Ms. Baker is also acting as the curriculum advisor.  Funding for this project has been provided by the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium.  Many others have provided help and resources and have been credited throughout the atlas.
