The Atlas Utilizes:

• Primary source geographic data and images
• Maps from traditional atlases
• New maps created using GIS technology
• Textual material describing the geography, history, and culture of Pacific Northwestern subregions

An Internet Based Atlas:

1. Provides a greater variety and depth of information through links to public and private organizations.
2. Ability to conduct research in a non-linear fashion to emphasize interrelationships between topics.
3. Interactive pages and maps allow for customized research beyond the capabilities of traditional atlases.

Where Are We Going Now?

This year we are creating curricula to bring the Virtual Atlas into the K-12 classroom. Throughout this project we will be meeting with teachers to collect information on how to modify the atlas to better meet teachers' needs, creating lesson plans that use the atlas to address Washington's Essential Learning Requirements, and holding workshops on incorporating the atlas into classroom curriculum.

We are always looking for feedback or suggestions on how to improve this project and will also be forming an advisory group guide this project as it develops.
