Promoting Travel through the Pacific Northwest Regions
You and your partner(s) are business people who live and work in your region. In order to promote increased tourism and relatively benign environmental impact with economic growth, you are going to make a presentation to a group of travel agents that will be meeting at your school in ten days. Your goal is to make an 8-10 minute presentation on your region, convincing these travel agents to promote tourism within your region. In order to be successful. You and your partner(s) should follow these steps:
~ Conduct research on your region. You have a number of sources at your disposal, including the Virtual Atlas of the Pacific Northwest and its links (www.evergreen.edu/user/virtatpnw/), school library maps, atlases, and books. Divide up the research duties. Take notes as you web surf and read.
~ Discuss your research as a team. Make sure that everyone in your group understands the boundaries of your region.
~ Decide as a group what the defining characteristics of your region are. Be sure you have included information on these topics: climate, elevation and relief, major physical features, major human features, resources, and prevalent economic activities. Note any significant landmarks or interesting tourist sites within your region. Record these for incorporation into your presentation.
~ Design a presentation that will convince these travel agents convention to sell tours of your region to their customers. Your presentation should begin with a catchy introduction. Because these travel agents don’t know your region and need to be convinced it’s a great place to visit, you should include a brief outline of the geographic information described in the step above.
~ Take us on an imaginary tour during the bulk of your presentation; design and describe the ideal seven-day trip through your region! You are now the experts, convince the rest of us that we want our clients to visit your region! Use a memorable effective conclusion.
~ Design a visual aid to use during your presentation, poster, transparency set, brochure, or HyperCard stack. If you have an idea for some original attention-getting gimmick please check with the convention hall manager (or your instructor).
~ Your visual aid must include a map of your region and the trip route you have planned. Also include any other eye-catching features you believe are important. Be creative! Simple costumes and props can be effective.
Practice your presentation at least once before giving it for real.
Good luck and Have fun!
