Pain is Weakness Leaving the Body...
April 30, 2000
2:40PM
Hwy 90E, mile 166
Heading out to the border
Clear skies and now very hot, mid-80’s at a guess.
We’ve entered the desert! Hooray it’s just like home. The heat feels strange cause I’m very used to it but somehow it feels different. I’m sure it’s just me getting used to the heat again. You know as winter ended I found myself going out in the cold, rainy weather in shorts. My body adjusted really well.
5:50PM
We have arrived in Tekoa. Now we have to find the trailhead. The town before Tekoa is Latah the sign said. It was a very interesting little town. Had an old old hotel that looked like someone was making it into a bed and breakfast. Chris did a 20 page report on this little town (that seems to have died).
The geography is apparently very unusual. We drove by an unusual amount of birds the past couple of miles. Lots of different kinds of hawks and pheasants and magpies. It was strange how many there were all of a sudden.
I think I will sleep outside tonight.
